Philosophy of Education
Education in M.S.A.D. #1 should empower students to reach their maximum potential utilizing their unique abilities and interests. We believe that this process is a partnership commitment involving the individual, the home, the school, and the community.
M.S.A.D. #1 is committed to developing, within each student, competencies in the fundamental skills. These skills include written and oral communication and conceptual and computational skills of mathematics. We endeavor to create opportunities for science experiences which will help our students learn how to think critically. It is our goal to teach students to communicate effectively and act responsibly, making wise and prudent use of environmental resources. The learning experience in our school system should create an understanding of and appreciation for the rights, duties, privileges, and responsibilities of citizenship in our democratic society and in our world community.
We strive to encourage each student to think rationally and creatively, to practice sound healthful lifestyles, and to possess positive moral and ethical principles. We promote interest in worthwhile leisure-time activities. Students are provided with opportunities that will create understanding and experience in cultural and aesthetic appreciation.
The learning environment in M.S.A.D. #1 is designed to prepare each student to meet Maine’s Learning Results and the challenges of life-long learning. This environment exposes students to the many options available to them to extend their horizons and achieve personal growth and self-fulfillment.
