Welcome to the MSAD #1 website. We appreciate your visit to our website, which is designed to provide a wealth of information about the District. MSAD #1 is the largest school district in beautiful Central Aroostook County, Maine. It is a wonderful part of Maine with four distinct seasons and endless opportunities.

MSAD #1 is comprised of the communities of Chapman, Castle Hill, Mapleton, Presque Isle and Westfield. MSAD #1 is approximately 191 square miles. MSAD #1 has a Pre-K – 12 student population of approximately 1750. The population of the five communities that makeup MSAD #1 is approximately 12,700.

When parents place their children on the school bus or drop them off at school, they are placing a tremendous amount of trust in us. We know they are sending us their best. We are committed to honoring that trust by creating a caring, supportive, and strong academic climate.

MSAD #1 students attend Pine Street Elementary School, serving Kindergarten through Grade 2 “Home of the Cubs” ( 346 students), Mapleton Elementary School serving Grades Pre-K-5, “Home of the Bobcats” (235 students), Zippel Elementary School serving Grades 3-5, “Home of the Wildcats” (275 students), Presque Isle Middle School serving grades 6-8, “Home of the “Wildcats” (353 students), and Presque Isle High School serving grades 9-12, “Home of the Wildcats” (542 students).

We take pride in our curriculum. It is designed to build key academic skills in students across a wide range of subjects. The teachers and support staff who work with students every day are committed to being both skillful and caring, and working hard to inspire our students. They seek creative and innovative ways to enliven a subject and work hard to connect with students.

MSAD #1 provides a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities. The purpose of these programs is to allow students to discover their strengths and then build on those strengths. Our students are amazing. I invite you to witness firsthand how they excel in academics, the arts, athletics, and other extracurricular activities.

We also provide a number of specialized programs to support students in academics, whether it be helping students who are struggling or providing extra challenges for students, and have developed a wide range of programs to meet student needs.

We take safety seriously at MSAD #1, and are constantly making sure we have good plans and procedures to make the school environment as safe as possible. In addition, we take bullying very seriously, and have a number of safeguards and programs in place to make sure students are able to focus on their academics.

Meeting these challenges is no small task, but I can think of no better educational community than MSAD #1 to do so. Again, thank you for visiting the MSAD #1 website. Please do not hesitate to contact me at 207-764-4101 or email carpenterb@sad1.org with any questions or comments you may have.
