Dear Students, Families, and Staff,
We have been made aware that five individuals in MSAD #1 have tested positive for the coronavirus. Three individuals affiliated with Mapleton Elementary School, one individual affiliated with Pine Street Elementary School and one individual affiliated with Zippel Elementary School.
Due to universal masking in our schools, students who were masked and within 3-6 feet of a positive case can continue to attend school. We also had students and staff enrolled in pooled testing at each school which meant that we had 0 close contacts who were required to quarantine for 10 days.
Members of the MSAD #1 Health Services department notified the students considered close contacts to the individuals who tested positive at each of the schools. This includes close contacts who were masked and within 3-6 feet of the positive individuals as well as those who were enrolled in pooled testing and/or fully vaccinated. If you have not been contacted, your student is not considered a close contact.
The decision to keep our schools open for in-person instruction will be based on having adequate staffing in each of our buildings and the fact that the virus is not being transmitted within our schools. We continue to have the staffing necessary to effectively transport, educate and feed our students and are not seeing evidence of the virus being transmitted within our schools. The cases we are seeing are examples of the virus being brought into our schools from the community. As a result, all MSAD 1 schools will remain open for in-person instruction.
For up to date information regarding active cases in our schools as well as the number of students currently in quarantine, please visit our COVID Dashboard on our website at https://sad1.org/covid-dashboard/
Please remember to keep your child home if he or she is not feeling well and reach out to MSAD #1 Health Service Director, Lisa Mckenna at email@example.com for additional guidance prior to returning to school.
