MEMO: Optional Masking Decision – Feb. 28, 2022

February 28, 2022

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

At a special meeting of the MSAD #1 Board of Directors, the Board voted to make masking optional in all district schools effective on Tuesday, March 1.

Effective March 1, students and staff will no longer be required to wear masks/face coverings while inside district schools or while riding district buses. MSAD #1 will continue to provide masks/face coverings for students and staff who wish to continue wearing a mask/face covering while at school or on a school bus.

The district will continue to employ other long-standing prevention strategies to mitigate spread of the coronavirus. These prevention strategies include physical distancing, enhanced cleaning and handwashing protocols, improving school ventilation, and encouraging students/staff to stay home when they are sick. The district will continue to offer pooled testing for students and staff who wish to participate in the weekly program. We continue to promote vaccination among students and staff.

Please remember to keep your child home if he or she is not feeling well and reach out to MSAD #1 Health Service Director, Lisa Mckenna, at mckennal@sad1.org for additional guidance prior to returning to school.

Sincerely,

Ben Greenlaw

Superintendent
