MEMO: COVID Update – January 28, 2022

January 28, 2022

Dear Students, Families, and Staff,

I am writing to provide an update to the MSAD 1 community regarding COVID case counts at each school.  For the most up to date information regarding active cases in our schools, please visit our COVID Dashboard on our website at

Forty-four individuals in MSAD #1 have tested positive for the coronavirus since last week.  Twelve individuals affiliated with Mapleton Elementary School, ten individuals affiliated with Presque Isle Middle School, nine individuals associated with Presque Isle High School, nine individuals associated with Pine Street Elementary School, and four individuals affiliated with Zippel Elementary School.  Due to recent changes to the SOP, no students were required to quarantine as close contacts.

I am hopeful that we will continue to see a reduction in cases in our schools in the coming weeks.  We have seen 28 fewer cases this week as compared to last week – a 38% reduction. Since MSAD 1 requires all students and staff to wear masks at school, students are not required to quarantine and miss class time.

Currently, approximately 70% of our students and staff are either fully vaccinated or enrolled in pooled testing. Schools that do not have a mask mandate are required to quarantine close contacts of a positive case for five days unless the close contact is enrolled in pooled testing or is fully vaccinated. I am hopeful that enrollment in our pooled testing program will increase in the coming weeks. An increase in enrollment in pooled testing, along with a steady decrease in positive cases in the district, would allow the district to take steps to make masks optional.

Please remember to keep your child home if he or she is not feeling well and reach out to MSAD #1 Health Service Director, Lisa Mckenna at for additional guidance prior to returning to school.
