November 11, 2020

Dear Staff, Students, and Families,

I’m writing to inform you that a spouse of a MSAD #1 employee tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The spouse tested positive yesterday, November 10, and is currently in isolation.  The spouse and the MSAD #1 employee are in contact with members of the MSAD #1 nursing staff and the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Through the process of contact tracing, six MSAD #1 students or staff members have been identified as “close contacts” of the spouse and will quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure.  The “close contacts” will also need to have a negative COVID-19 test prior to returning to an MSAD #1 school.

To be clear, there are no MSAD #1 students or staff who are identified as positive cases.  In order to protect the health and privacy rights of the individual as well as the “close contacts,” we will not be releasing any names associated with the positive case.  Of the six “close contacts” across the district, these individuals attend or work in the following schools:

Mapleton Elementary School
Presque Isle High School
Presque Isle Middle School
Zippel Elementary School

We are notifying the community in an effort to eliminate any misinformation and to take the opportunity to reinforce the importance of wearing masks and face coverings, washing hands, and maintaining social distancing.  The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.  Please monitor yourself and/or your student for signs and symptoms of the coronavirus, call a health care provider if symptoms start, and stay home if you are sick.

Please continue to take the necessary precautions against the coronavirus in order to reduce the spread of the disease. Feel free to reach out to MSAD #1 Health Services Director, Lisa McKenna at, your child’s principal, or myself at if you have any questions.
