Press Release

MSAD #1:

A Facilities Planning Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Campus Center at the University of Maine Presque Isle from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Buildings and Grounds Committee of the MSAD #1 School Board are inviting all interested citizens of Presque Isle, Mapleton, Chapman, Castle Hill, and Westfield to come and learn about our facilities planning. The District has been researching viable options for the long-term needs of our existing school buildings.

Virginia “Ginny” Joles has offered to host the meeting on our behalf and to assist in facilitating the presentation of information. Declining enrollment and reduced State subsidy continue to put financial strains on the portion of the District budget dedicated to the care and operation of five (5) schools. The State of Maine has options available for funding that the District is pursuing. We want to share the process and opportunities these create with the communities, and get feedback and suggestions.

The District has already conducted meetings with our staff to refine our options and create more understanding of the State funding mechanisms. The next step is to begin to engage with the communities of Presque Isle, Mapleton, Castle Hill, Chapman, and Westfield on the options and need.

The agenda for the meeting is a brief welcome from the Committee and Superintendent, a presentation by the District in regards to facilities, enrollment, and funding options, a discussion of some of the ideas that are under consideration, and finally a public process with comments, questions, and ideas.

The meeting is expected to be recorded if you are unable to attend.
